“We saw it on Pinterest and …”
How many times have you been at an event or in someone’s home for the first time, admired something, and their response was an excited “We saw it on Pinterest!”? It’s happened to us plenty, and we’re often the one saying we saw it on Pinterest!
Seeing this Personalized Maritime Signal Flag Artwork pin on Pinterest inspired today’s blog post — and a new fabric design to make this great craft project easier for you to create!
We could tell right away that Kim Six Fix is well suited to be at the helm of her sewing machine. Us? Not so much. We lug ours out of the box at the top of the closet every three or four years when someone needs help with a Halloween costume, but “well suited” isn’t an apt description of any scenario involving us and that machine.
So How Could We Sew Less and Still Create This Project?
Pre-printed nautical flag fabric is the answer!
Kim Six Fix created her nautical signal flags by way of cutting and sewing colored fabric shapes. If the vision of your doing that makes you break out in a cold sweat, we’re right there with you! But don’t fret! By buying fabric with the nautical flags pre-printed, all that’s left to sew are the seams. Even we can do that!
- The entire alphabet of nautical flags is printed on one yard, so you’ll have one of every letter with this fabric.
- If you’d like matching plain fabric for the back sides of the flags, you can get that here.
- Plus, there’s space for a name or word on that yard of fabric, so make sure you customize that for another project!

If You Think That’s Still too Much Sewing
Alternatively, if you’re really averse to sewing, you could use adhesive fusing web, sold in fabric stores or on Amazon, or fabric glue, also sold in fabric stores and Amazon. Just remember that some glues may melt, if your new artwork hangs in a sunny area. If you go the glue route, we like Aleene’s for just about everything.
