Orange is the New Nautical Trend
We have exciting news! Just in time for Halloween, we’re converting everything to orange! Cool, right?
Okay. No. Not really. That seems like… no, we won’t do that. 😉
But we did find some neat nautical + orange designs that we think you’re going to love, if you’re looking for a new nautical accent color. And that’s what we’re sharing today.
Orange Nautical Accents for the Harvest Season
We went in search of evidence of the rumored orange nautical trend, and here’s what we found: It’s not about making your entire room {or website!} nautical + orange. The trend is to spin a little orange as your accent color. Typically, we’d see red as an accent color — and that’s still in the nautical decor game — but we’re seeing orange mixed in or as the accent color.
Is the trend relative to Halloween? Not exactly. It’s more about fall/autumn colors and the harvest seasonal colors. Shopping locally, we confirmed the sense that this is more of a seasonal trend. The idea is to swap your red or other accent color for orange from November through January. Shopping online, we found the same results. We’re not seeing the primary inspiration or largest item in the room, like an entire duvet cover or shower curtain, covered in orange and anchors. Though two or three accent pillows covered entirely in anchors? Yes, trend it!
But we found lots and lots of pillows as accents! Some of them were predominantly orange and others were accented in orange. If you read us regularly, you know we have a love of pillows, so we’re just thrilled to have an excuse to bring you more!
The octopus pillow we selected to show in our graphic above is the epitome of the trend. Keep your room the colors you love, and splash that orange right in the middle of it. We think that’s a fabulous idea and really love it!
Did You Mean Orange Orange or Pumpkin Orange?
Yes! Any shade of orange will do! Orange orange is perfect for Florida and Cali, but coral orange and pumpkin orange will do, as well. Deep red-oranges work well with nautical decor, and a light pale peachy orange works, too. The best part may well be that you don’t have to just pick one orange. Mix and match complementary shades for a look that mimics nature in the fall {okay… not Florida fall, but “up north” fall}.
The moral of the story is don’t go overboard. {Yeah, we said that!} Just pick a few oranges, and throw ’em on the couch. 😀
Nautical Color Palettes That Include Orange
To get you started adding orange to your favorite nautical space, we’ve got three color palettes using three different shades of orange. Pick the one that’s closest to yours, and then find pillows and other accents to more or less match. Remember that it doesn’t have to be an exact match. The point is that the hue work with your existing nautical decor.
And Then Find Your Favorite Palette-Matching Pillow
We selected our favorites from the marketplace to make it easier on you. {Or maybe we just like to shop…} The three you see above are included here, and then there are 18 more. Plus we picked three bonuses — nautical ottoman poufs with orange in them.
