Description

Mermaid Mist olive oil glycerin soap is made with 20 percent of grade A, kosher Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which is gentle and moisturizing, and, in fact, the primary ingredient of many handmade liquid soaps and unscented soap bars made exclusively for babies and those with easily irritated skin. Olive oil is rich in vitamins A and E, fatty acids, and antioxidants. This pale yellow, translucent soap produces a delicate, silky lather.

The scent is a combination of clean and fresh salt air and a faint musky pine. The light, breezy scent of Mermaid Mist evokes memories of a day spent at the beach, out boating, or — if you close your eyes — we swear you’ll think a mermaid is nearby gently splashing in the waves. 😉 Think of it as still feeling the beach, even after you rinse away the fresh salt air. The delicate, silky lather of olive oil soap combines with this scent for a perfect scent and soap pairing you’re going to love!

Soap & Scent Pairing

THE SCENT: We originally selected this scent as a great addition to our masculine scented soaps — it’s light, and when we say it’s “delicate,” we don’t mean that it’s feminine. We mean that it’s not overpowering, even straight from the bottle. Then we began testing in various soap bases, and we realized that it was going to be well loved by women, as much as men.

THE SOAP: Why did we ultimately select the olive oil soap base? For the same reasons we love the scent — it’s light, fresh, and delicate.

THE PAIRING: Our Mermaid Mist soap is the result of what we call a perfect pairing of scent and soap: Light, fresh, and delicate ocean mist scent meets likewise in olive oil soap. And we were right — both men and women in our focus group loved it as much as we do!

This soap contains glycerin, an organic compound and humectant, meaning it attracts moisture — a benefit to your skin. After use, you may notice tiny spots of moisture on the soap itself. This is perfectly normal and just means the glycerin is doing its job. Soap with glycerin moisture spots is safe to use.

About Soap

Are You Concerned About Sodium Hydroxide (aka Lye)?

All soap is made with sodium hydroxide also known by the common name “lye” — which, alone, is a caustic substance about which you may have read. Without lye, oils, additives, and water are just sludge (for which you’d want SOAP to clean up!). Without the oils, lye can be dangerous if not properly handled. During the “saponification” process (the making of soap), a chemical reaction between oils and the lye results in a product which is skin safe. Indeed, this saponification creates the product which cleanses! So don’t be afraid to see it in the ingredients list — here or anywhere. In fact, you should be concerned only if someone claims to have made soap which doesn’t contain sodium hydroxide.

Are You Concerned About Animal Testing?

The first recorded use of soap is by the ancient Babylons in 2800 BC. Since that time, we’re pretty sure someone has tested every ingredient in our soaps on animals. But we don’t — and won’t ever — test on animals — nor will we purchase our ingredients from those who do. That’s a promise.
