We’re on our 8th Day of November — no Maids a Milking, sorry — and are worried about your wardrobe. Okay, not really. But we are problem solvers here, and a friend recently mentioned that the holiday card they loved didn’t offer color customizing. Since they’d had professional portraits shot and wanted to share them with friends and family, the lack of options forced them to choose a different design.

And that got us thinking. What we really need is a holiday card design that picks the colors from your photo and matches the colors! That would be cool, right?

Enter Color-Matching Typography!

We created our color-matching typography series to do exactly that — color match the typography to your portrait. That’s nifty, right? Until you add a photo, the typography and design accents are actually darned-near invisible. Add your photo, and — Voila! — the typography appears in matching shades. We like to call it ‘magic’! We used technology to do the work, so you can love the design and add your photo without fear of clashing. {Because clashing is almost as bad as wearing the same dress as someone else to the holiday party. Am I right?}

There is one caveat, and we can tell you how to overcome it. In order for this holiday collection to render best, your imagery should be simple. Since most professional photographers will follow this line of thinking, most professional family photos will work fabulously. If you’re shooting your own family photos, whether with a DSLR or your iPhone, keep it simple. That’s it!

As you peruse the stock photography we used in our images, you’ll see that we chose color-coordinating, simple imagery. Some of the backgrounds are blurred or are heavy on the bokeh. The images were purchased that way, but we do love the effect. Many cameras offer this option now, but if you don’t have that option, just keep it simple. It’s really as… well… simple as that!
