We’re in the market for a gift for a friend who’s an avid boater and fisherman. Since we know nothing of fishing, we decided to stick with the boating theme. We tossed a few things around, and the end result was he’s the epitome of the “man who has everything.” That didn’t deter us. 🙂 Here are the 5 nautical gift ideas which made our short list.
No. 5: Personalized 60-Quarter Cooler
Whether he’s going deep-sea fishing or out for a short boat ride, our friend always packs a cooler. Who wouldn’t love a personalized cooler, right?
He’s local, so the Stuart nautical chart design with latitude and longitude is a good match. We could also change “Stuart” to his boat name though… or he might like an anchor design with his initial monogram… hmmm… so many choices, and this is just a small sampling of all that are available!
No. 4: Nautical Pocket Watch
As soon as it came to mind, this nautical pocket watch shot right up to the top of our gift ideas short list. Why? Because I just love them! But whenever that happens, I remind myself that this isn’t a gift for me.
While I do think he (and many other boaters) would love a classic-styled nautical pocket watch, no matter the occasion, we realized that it probably wasn’t the perfect gift for his particular brand of active lifestyle. {We will look at this gift idea for him again in the future though; we’re sure of it!}
You can browse nautical pocket watches here, if it’s perfect for your classic man!
No. 3: Engraved Flask & Shot Glass Set
This handsome flask and shot glass set isn’t “nautical,” per se, but we think that it surely has a nautical feel to it. The shot glasses aren’t actually glass, making them boat safe, and the protective case makes them perfect for stowing away until an appropriate occasion arises. We really love the classic and elegant styling, and the monogram kicks it up a notch.
Not that we were trying to be cheap at all, but, gosh, who would ever believe this set was only $30?
No. 2: Boater’s Wood Wall Art
Again, since our boater friend lives in Stuart, our St. Lucie River nautical chart is a perfect match, but we were thinking just nautical wall art, generally speaking. There are so many great options, from intricate art finished off with “Captain Smith” to a simple anchor or local sea shore photo.
From a boat-safe point of view, we really like the wood wall panels, plus wood is manly material 😉 and the just so… boat like!
And the Winner is…
No. 1: A Vintage Brass Sextant
{For the Boater Who Has Everything!}
We love to just browse Amazon for ideas. It’s like window shopping without having to get dressed and put on make up. 😉
Now before you start pondering how nautical navigation is all electronic these days and GPS this and that, a true vintage, brass sextant would be such a great gift for someone who learned to navigate in a pre-smart phone era. It’s such a classic gift for a classic man. We’re not sure how authentic this one is, and since we love doing business with our local small businesses, we’re heading out to our favorite nautical store — Nautical But Nice.
